Os quatros elementos e suas representações e influências na pintura e na música francesa do século XVIII

Resumen

 O presente artigo busca apresentar relações entre as representações dos quatro elementos clássicos – fogo, ar, água e terra – na pintura e na música francesa do século XVIII. Um dos primeiros autores a sistematizar as representações foi Cesare Ripa (c.1555-1622), cuja obra influenciou diversos artistas durante séculos. Muitos compositores franceses se serviram desses topos, dentre os quais podemos destacar Michel-Richard de Lalande e André Cardinal Destouches com a opéra-ballet Les Élémens, um grande sucesso no cenário musical francês do século XVIII. A repercussão da obra foi tão grande que motivou diversas paródias musicais e François Boucher a pintar duas telas inspiradas na obra. Pretendemos neste trabalho discorrer sobre de que forma a temática dos quatros elementos foi utilizada na obra de Les Élémens e nas telas de Boucher, e quais aspectos em comum se mantiveram entre elas. 

ABSTRACT

 The Four Elements and their Representations and Influences on 18th century French Painting and Music 

This present paper aims to introduce the relationship between the representations of the four classical elements – fire, air, water and earth – in French paintings and music from the 18th century. One of the first’s authors to systematize the representations was Cesare Ripa (c.1555-1622), his work influenced many artists for centuries. Many French composers used this topos, we can highlight Michel-Richard de Lalande and André Cardinal Destouches with the opéra-ballet Les Élémens, a great success in the French music scene of the 18th century. The repercussion of the work was so great that it motivated several musical parodies and François Boucher to paint two canvases inspired by this work. In this paper/thesis/article, we intend to discuss how the theme of the four elements was used in the work of Les Élémens and in Boucher's canvases, and what common aspects remained in them.
