About the Journal

In 1996, the National Conservatory “Carlos López Buchardo” (founded in 1924) attained university status when it became part of the National University Institute of the Arts (IUNA), which has been known since 2014 as the National University of the Arts (UNA). It was then established as the Department of Musical and Sound Arts (DAMus). University-level academic activity fostered research, which in turn required a dedicated publication.

In November 2009, the first issue of Revista 4’33’’ was published as a digital journal by the Institute for Research in Musical Arts “Carmen García Muñoz” at DAMus. Created during the tenure of Lic. Julio García Cánepa, the journal was led by Mgtr. Diana Zuik until December 2016.

In 2020, Revista 4’33’’ entered a new phase under the direction of Dr. Gabriel Pérsico, with Lic. Alejandro Goldzycher as editor, alongside a renewed Peer Review Committee and Institutional Advisory Board to ensure rigorous peer review and proper indexing.

Our publication seeks to reflect the discourse on music within an institution dedicated to teaching, production, creation, and sound research. Its various sections aim to cover this broad and diverse field: Articles, Documenta, Research in Creative Production, Reviews, Young Scholars’ Space, and the DAMus Activities Agenda.

We aspire to include contributions not only from our country but from across Latin America, in both Spanish and Portuguese, as well as works in English when it is the native language of the authors, establishing ourselves as a space for exchange and academic dialogue. We hope to continue expanding this platform for scientific thought on music, alongside opinion, analysis, testimony, and critique.
